“I used to wag school and travel from Warrington to Manchester midweek in the late 70's. I bought the Popstar/Attack single from the record store in the underground market. I loved that shop. I remember that they would always have whatever John Peel had played earlier that week up on the walls. I was only about 14 years old but it felt alive to be in such a cool place. Did Armed Force get an airing on the Peel Show, or was my purchase a lucky hunch? Either way, my record collection back in Warrington was considered really cool. I also got introduced to post -punk bands like The Passage, Contact, The Fall and of course Joy Division. What was a pain though was returning home with flyers for upcoming gigs that I had no way of ever being able to get to. 'cos I was a kid. Brilliant times though finding my independence and outlook on the world. These things have stayed with me. I think I might have fancied the woman who served me in the shop as well. Great site and really informative.”
